Defence Services Examinations In India

IAF Airman (Technical Trades) Exam

This examination is held twice a year through an Objective Type paper and candidates are called for the Examination through the notifications published in the Employment News and other prominent national newspapers.

Eligibility For IAF Airman (Technical Trades) Exam

Unmarried male Indian citizens (subjects of Nepal also) are eligible.

Age

16 to 21 years in the year of examination.

Education

Intermediate/ 10+ 2 / equivalent exam with English, Physics and Mathematics and 50% marks in aggregate.
(or)
Three-year Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / Automobile / Computer Science /
Instrumentation Technology) from a recognized Polytechnic or Institute.

Physical requirements

Minimum Height - 152.5 cm
Chest - Expanded chest measurement should not be less than 75 cm with minimum range of expansion of 5 cm
Vision: At least 6/ 12 in each eye without glasses, correctible to 6/6 in each eye;
Colour Vision: Normal/Defective Safe CF2/CP3
Weight: Corresponding to height and age.
General Health: Free from all communicable diseases and no medical or surgical deformities. Should have no history of Fits or Psychiatric ailment. Candidate must be physically and mentally fit for duty anywhere in the world, in any climate or terrain.

Selection Process

Eligible candidates will be called for a written test in:
  • English
  • Intelligence and General Awareness
  • Mathematics
  • Science.
Questions in these tests will be of Objective Type and bilingual, i.e., in Hindi and English. Candidates are required to qualify in each part.
Results will be declared on the same day and successful candidates will have to immediately appear for the Trade Allocation Test.

IAF Airman (Non-Technical Trades) Exam

Airmen who are recruited through this Non-Technical cadre would appointed to take responsibility in the hob areas from weather forecasting to maintenance of records and files, the candidates' contribution will give shaping to the effective functioning of the Air Force and all its branches. IAF Airman (Non-Technical Trades) Exam is conducted for Indian male citizens.
The selection process for this non-technical course that commences twice a year, the first one commences in the month of January to June and second from July to December. For the courses commencing in the month of January, the exams are held in the month of August/September of the preceding year and for the courses commencing in July, exams are held in the month of April or May of the same year.

    Candidates, who are intending to appear for the IAF Airman (Non-Technical Trades) Exam conducted by the Indian Airforce, must appear in two written tests in:

    I) English

    II) Intelligence and General Knowledge.

    Questions in these tests will be of Objective type and Bilingual, i.e., English and Hindi.

    The candidates will be required to qualify each part separately.

    Results will be declared on the same day and the successful candidates have to immediately appear in a Trade Allocation.

    IAF Airman (Educational Instructors Trade) Exam

    Those who join as Educational Instructors in the Indian Air Force (IAF) will conduct classes and Examinations. They will be trained to undertake the maintenance and administration of libraries, information rooms and schools and also provide invaluable assistance and support to the various functions of the Indian Air Force.

    Physically and mentally fit for duty anywhere in the world.
  • Exam Pattern Of IAF Airman (Educational Instructors Trade) Examination

    Exam Pattern of IAF Airman (Educational Instructors Trade) Exam comprises of a written test (objective type) in English, Current Affairs and General Awareness at one of the specified Centres.
    Those who qualify this test will be given a subjective test in English comprising an essay and paragraph writing. Current Affairs and General Awareness papers will be in Hindi and English. These can be answered either in Hindi or English.

    Indian Navy Sailors Matric Entry Recruitment Examination

    Indian Navy Sailors (Direct Entry) MER Examination is held twice a year to recruit candidates to serve in the Indian Navy which owns sophisticated ships, submarines and aircrafts, which are operated by sailors, who are given training at various intervals during their service. This examination is held twice a year as advertised in the Employment News and other leading national newspapers. 

    Eligibility For Sailors Matric Entry Recruitment Examination

    Any male, unmarried Indian citizen is eligible.

    17-20 years on the 1st January or 1st August of the year of examination.

    Educational Qualifications For Sailors Matric Entry Recruitment Examination

    (i) One Mile (1.6 km) run to be completed in 7 minutes.
    (ii) 20 sit ups.

The standard of question paper will be that of matriculation level. Those who qualify written test will undergo Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and those who qualify PFT will undergo medical test.

    Indian Navy Dockyard Apprentices Examination

    Candidates, who get selected through Indian Navy Dockyard Apprentices Examination, would be having lucrative job experience, by getting the initial training from the Naval Dockyard School, Mumbai.
    This Examination is conducted by the Navy for unmarried Indian male citizens. On successful completion of the Examination and the interview processes candidates will be sent for initial training and then for a further training at various Naval Establishments located at different places of the country. Selected Sailors are also sent abroad for training in specific disciplines. Prior to release from service Sailors are also given pre-release courses to enable them to settle down in civil life. Sailors in the Navy are liable to serve anywhere in India, on board ships and Submarines or abroad as ordered by the concerned authorities.

Indian Navy Artificer Apprentices Examination

There are four types of recruitment processes exist for the entry of sailors, with the Indian Navy:

  • Artificer Apprentice exam

Technical MER Examination comprises of two written Exams followed by physical fitness Test. The details are explained as under.

Paper I (Time: 45 minutes - Max. Marks: I00)

The eligible candidates are called for a written test in

(i) General Intelligence;

(ii) Mathematical Aptitude; and

(iii) General Knowledge.

Paper II (Time: 45 minutes - Max. Marks: 100)

In this paper, there are questions of about 30 marks in Physics, 20 marks in Chemistry and 50 marks of Mensuration (Areas and Volumes), Algebra, Trigonometry and Arithmetic, etc. Note: Questions is these tests will be of the Objective type and bilingual, i.e., Hindi and English. 2. Mathematics (50 marks)

There are 5 questions of 10 marks each. The questions are generally on Fractions, Percentage, Interest, Areas and Factorization. Note: Questions in Paper I will be Objective Type and bilingual, i.e., Hindi and English. Paper II will be of Descriptive type. Only those fit will be called for Interview. Final selection will be on merit.
